Melchizedek & a Kingdom of Priests

The bible teaches us that Yahweh’s plan was that at age 30 all men would begin their ministry and served Yahweh.  The bible also teaches us that the laws would be written in our hearts.  Therefore, it is our responsibility to know the word of Yahweh.

According to the book of Exodus, Yahweh wanted us to become a kingdom of priests.  And in the book of Numbers, a census was performed to identify all men of age 30 to 50 who could work in the tent of meeting.  So the bible establishes that at age 30 all men were expected to preform priestly duties in the tent of meeting.

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

Numbers 4:1 From thirty years old up to fifty years old, you shall list them, all who can come to do duty, to do service in the tent of meeting.

In the letter to the Hebrews, Paul explains the order of Melchizedek priest hood.  The priesthood was to be handed down through the oldest son.  Therefore, the elders of the family were responsible for teaching the word of Yahweh to the younger family members.  In 2 Peter, Noah was referred to as the eight preacher of righteousness and this was due to the order of Melchizedek.

KJV 2 Pet 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; [The word ‘person’ is in italics, meaning they inserted that word. The ‘a’ was inserted also since they did not use ‘a’ in the Greek language.] http://biblehub.com/lexicon/2_peter/2-5.htm

The order of Melchizedek, that made Noah the eight preacher, was as follows:

1.       Adam the first preacher.

2.       When Adam died, Seth became the second preacher.  Cain was not qualified, even though he was the oldest.  Abel qualified; however, he died prior to Adam.

3.       When Seth died, Enos became the third preacher.

4.       When Enos died, Cainan became the fourth preacher.

5.       When Cainan died, Mahalaleel became the fifth preacher.

6.       When Mahalaleel died, Jared became of the sixth preacher.

7.       When Jared died, Methuselah became the seventh preacher.  Enoch was skipped since he ascended to heaven prior to Jared dying.

8.       When Methuselah died, Noah became the eighth preacher of righteousness.

In Genesis, Abram was blessed by Melchizedek.  There are different speculations as to who held the title of Melchizedek the high priest at that time.

Gen 14:17 After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) 19 And he blessed him and said,  "Blessed be Abram by God Most High,  Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!" And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

In 2 Samuel we find that David became King at age thirty:

2 Sam 5:4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

In the Psalms, A Psalm of David, King David is referred to as a priest after the order of Melchizedek.  Therefore, King David had inherited this title down though the family from Abraham.  The kings were actually priestly kings.

Psalms 110:1 The Lord says to my Lord:  "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool." 2 The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter.  Rule in the midst of your enemies! 3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. 4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,  "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." 5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth. 7 He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.

In Luke, it is stated that Yahshua started his ministry at age 30, after being baptized:

Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

In Hebrews, we find that Yahshua (Jesus) was referred to as a priest after the order of Melchizedek.  Therefore, he had inherited the title of a priestly king through the line of King David and he is now our High Priest.

Hebrews 5:5 So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,  "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"; 6 as he says also in another place,  "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek." 7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6:19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus [Yahshua] has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrew 7:4 See how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! 5 And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, though these also are descended from Abraham. 6 But this man who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. 8 In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. 9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

Jeremiah prophesied the new covenant coming and that we would all know Yahweh and the laws of Moses:

Jeremiah 31:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord, ' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

The Letter to the Hebrews, Paul explains the New Covenant was established.  It is explains that Yahshua died for our sins, therefore, a sin offering is no longer required.  The Levitical priesthood’s main responsibility was sin offerings, so we no longer need Levitical priests.  Yahshua was the final sacrifice for our sins.  It states we must still follow the Laws of Moses and the laws will be into our minds and hearts.  We are to know the laws and go to Yahshua directly with our pray requests for forgiveness.  Now we are to build the kingdom and be priest to administer the teachings of the bible ourselves.  So the Levitical priesthood that was put in place in preparation for Yahshua’ coming was done away with, however, the order of Melchizedek remains in place.  Therefore, we are to have elders of our families teaching us Yahweh’s word.

Hebrews 8:10 I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more."

The bible does document other roles, such as elders, that are voted in by the members of the assembly.  Some version of the bible show the word ‘ordained’ instead of appointed by vote.

YLT Acts 14:22 confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting to remain in the faith, and that through many tribulations it behoveth us to enter into the reign of God, 23 and having appointed to them by vote elders in every assembly, having prayed with fastings, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

KJV Acts 12:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. 23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

So being a Christian is a family responsibility.

It is our responsibility to know Yahweh’s laws and teach them to the younger generations.

It is not the church’s responsibility.

Our High Priest is Yahshua that we can go to directly with our prayers and requests for forgiveness.  We can call on Yahweh’s name for direction through Yahshua.
